Actuality Medical: Company Description
You've heard of surgical guidance.  But did you know that the existing products only work for 10% of the body, such as neurosurgery and orthopedics?  Join Actuality Medical – where you'll invent technologies to treat the other 90%. We are a fun, fast-paced, tight team of top-notch product innovators developing and commercializing breakthrough systems for improving the precision, morbidity, and quality of radiation oncology and surgical excision for soft tissue indications - initially for prostate and breast cancer.
Actuality Medical, Inc. (Bedford, MA) is a pre-IPO company that develops breakthrough products for improving the precision and quality of a variety of cancer treatments in radiation oncology and surgical excision. We combine image processing, machine vision, fast GPU-based computation, and ultrasound analysis – using techniques from our award-winning work towards holographic television. Our first product, PerspectaSeed 4D, will apply "intra-operative dynamic dosing" – a smart guidance and planning methodology – to prostate brachytherapy. It is designed to better control the radiation dose to the patient by continually monitoring the actual positions of placed seeds and recommending placements for subsequent seeds. Subsequent products strive to improve other common procedures, such as breast lumpectomy.
Would you enjoy challenges in biomedical engineering, signal processing, and visualization? Actuality's core technologies evolved from our heritage in advanced 3-D optical hardware, such as our hologram-like 3-D displays. Our products have been honored and publicized by Frost & Sullivan, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), the Society for Information Display (SID), Scientific American, and Technology Review.
Historically, we've found that candidates with a multidisciplinary breadth of interests on top of a solid foundation of mathematics, computer science, or engineering, really excel here. And, of course, an inventive spirit and a sense of humor! We are at the forefront of real-time ultrasound analysis.  You'll become a part of a world-class team of engineers who will rely on your initiative and inventiveness to create, test, and implement algorithms critical to our first product.

Primary Responsibilities
Actuality Medical seeks a highly motivated, results-focused Scientist and Engineering Professional with strong experience in computer vision algorithm development. C++ software development skills are required. The successful applicant will work with the Actuality software team to research, invent, and prototype methods to inspect real-time ultrasound data for the presence of certain static and dynamic features in the face of various artifacts. This combines innovation in signal processing with computer vision. Specifically:
    •    Develop a proof of concept for medical ultrasound image enhancement. Reduce artifacts associated with ultrasound imaging of hard objects implanted in soft tissue.
    •    Develop a proof of concept for ultrasound seed detection.
    •    Test these methods to optimize them for accuracy, precision, and sensitivity / specificity.

Qualifications
    •    Demonstrated technical contributions and publication history in computer vision.
    •    Demonstrated experience in prototype development and testing of computer vision algorithms.
    •    The candidate must have a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related experience.
    •    Experience with software engineering (C++, OpenCV, Python, Matlab, Mathematica).
    •    Knowledge of computer vision tools and vision software
    •    Experience with graphical processing units is desirable.
